London’s hour was dwindling to a drop of night into the evening stars. Ember has already seen a majority of the city. Yet, she hasn’t gotten sick of the sights just yet because she came upon a boy dressed in rags with a dirty apron around his waist. She also might have passed him several hundred times as he delivered bread to his neighborhood.

Ember knew his name, and it was Edwin with his silver hair tainted down and his sleeves rolled up. She ran past him, knowing that she won’t be seen. But, he took a glimpse of her, and thought it was only his imagination. He carried on with his duties, and with that she disappeared from the city entirely. Or so she thought.

Ember rested in an area of flowers. They were yet to bloom, but they were still beautiful. She stood in the flowerbed, just thinking about her life. She thought that all sound was quiet, when she heard a rustle. Ember turned swiftly at the sudden noise, and out tumbled was the boy with silver hair. This was a strange turn of events. She never thought of herself seeable because she was a spirit. And no human has seen her visible until now.

‘What a strange boy,’ Ember thought as she studied him closely. He trampled to his feet and dusted off the dirt. When they made eye contact, there was this moment of awe that told each other that this was something that’d twist their fates and put their lives into jeopardy. But who was there to worry?

The boy moved his lips, but his voice was caught in his throat. So, it was Ember who took his turn in speaking. She moved her hands in a gesture that was giving him a simple hello. He stared at her, yet he took the hint that she was signing to him.

“H-hello…” he mumbled, but his voice was scratchy and this made a pink tint flash across his face. He couldn’t believe his hazel eyes what he was seeing. She was a unique lass that stood in front of him. She had hair that were the colors of midnight black and gray. Her skin was pale and blue, but he could see right through her as if she was a spirit. Her garment glowed a magnificent radiance.
But, her eyes were especially stunning. A depressing blue subduing a thin lining of white that gave a solemn vibe within the fragments of her eyes.

The girl smiled thinly, and she signed her name. He attempted to introduced himself, but she said that she already knew him. This seemed to be unfair because he knew nothing about her. She explained to him that she stalked him for the past couple of weeks. Creepy. But she didn’t understood what the term creepy meant.

I remembered that moment when…

Edwin gaped at her, and a smile tugged at his lips. She was there at that time? He laughed for the first time in a long while. She observed him like she has always done, and she has never seen him like this. They were hanging out in the woods, just talking like any other normal being did. But someone interrupted, and he was calling out for the rest of London to hear. His voice rang Edwin’s ears, and Ember drew a face that explained it was time to go.

“Urgh,” Edwin moaned and he stood up and stretched. “If only he was a little quieter, he wouldn’t be shouting at the top of his lungs.” he turned to her and apologized. “I have to get back to the shop before my boss licks me.” Ember nodded in understanding and she prepared to take her leave. She began to sink into the Earth until all that was left was nothing more. Edwin stared for awhile before dashing out of the woods screaming, “Oh quit your nagging, I’m moving along, Big Ben.”

The following days came and went in a drag. For Edwin, it rained on the days he delivered bread to his friends, and it was just plain boring whenever he had his free time snoozing away in a daydream. Ember, on the other hand, was seen pouting on her little rock next to one of the rivers in Hell. Usually around this time, Ember would be asleep to save up energy before heading out at midnight. Before long, a swarm of spirits came and nestled around her.

“Don’t be so down in the hearts of Hell,” A spirit named Red said.

“Is it DD again?” asked a blue spirit named Blue.

“DD is always the cause of her depression.” Red pointed out.

“Don’t butt in, Red, Ember needs attention.”
Ember shifted her head away from the squabbling twosome and buried her head in her hands.

“Awe now what you did, Red, she doesn’t like it when you point out the wrong things.”

“Oh shut up!”

“Make me,”

“Would the both of you shut up?” One of the other spirits named Yellow pitched in. The two spirits glared at Yellow, but xe ignored them and nudged xyrs head against Ember’s shoulder. “There, there little one, let them be and listen to me. You are a special soul-collector I have ever seen. Do what you want to do and nobody can tell you not. Nobody can control you, and not even DD.”

“Xe’s doing that rhyming thing again…” murmured Blue as Red sniggered. “DD is only bothering her because she’s special.”

“Special?” Yellow scowled.

“You state like it’s a wrong to be her.” Red shrugged.

“She is special because she was able to be seen by that baker boy. No one else have done that before.” Blue continued.

“Bryce was able to be seen by a group of kids back in the 1600s.”

“Oh, but that was a mistake. He trusted them too much, and they turned their backs on him. DD nearly burned the whole city in revenge of those kids.”

“What does this have to do with Ember?”

“The point is that this one is different, and it has been 200 years since then.”

“So... you’re saying that Ember might cause history to repeat itself?” Red asked with a skeptical look.

“I wasn’t implying anything like that.” Blue replied as xe lifted xyrs so-called hands to defend xemself.

“It certainly sounds like you are, you just pointed out your statement!”

“For crying out loud, shut up purple!” screamed Yellow, as xe snapped at them.

“Don’t mix us together!” shrieked Blue and Red in unison. The spirits turned to face Ember, but she was no longer on her rock. They became quiet for awhile before both Blue and Red started arguing again. Yellow just facepalmed xyrself.

Adrian flipped his hair out of his face, as he dug through a file that had the name Edwin Dell scripted onto it. He took careful notes about the lad, when his lord flashed in. Adrian didn’t put down the file, but gave a moment of silence as a welcome to his lord. The lord took well of his welcome, and snatched the file out of Adrian’s slender fingers.

“So this is Edwin that Ember fancies,” the lord said as he resisted a laugh. But Adrian didn’t take that as a joke, as he poured his lord a cup of tea. “He had his tragedies, and acclaimed nothing in return. Ohh, what a delicious looking lad.” He giggled once more, and took a sip of his tea.

“They have been seeing each other for more than a week, my lord,”

“Yes, yes, I know,”

“And you have been doing nothing,” The lord dropped the file and leaned up closely to Adrian, where he could smell the tea that lingered across his lord’s tongue.

“Are you... doubting me, Adrian?” He asked lowly, as he pressed him against the wall. He saw his adam's apple bobbed before his eyes, and that made him squirm inside. The lord smiled dangerously, signalling that Adrian might have stepped over the line too far.

“N-no, my lord…” he whimpered as a sweatdrop slid down his face.

“I play my part well, and I do it swiftly and quietly.”

“Yes, my lord,”

“It’s alright,” the lord whispered, and got off of Adrian, “I won’t do anything to you, this time...” he dusted off his hands, and picked up his cup of tea before flashing out of Adrian’s office. Adrian huffed in exhaustion, and wiped away the sweat off his brow. He gritted his teeth, and burned holes into the picture of Edwin with his eyes.
